Founded by William the Conqueror in 1066-7 and enlarged and modified by successive sovereigns, today the Tower of London is one of the world's most famous and spectacular fortresses. Rudolph Hess, the Deputy Führer from Nazi  Germany and Hitler's right hand man, became the last prisoner to be incarcerated in the Tower in 1941.

In The Beginning....

William the Conqueror began the buildings in 1077, while various monarchs over the centuries added their own towers and individual touches. You may view a parade of forty yeoman in period costume every day at 11am

The Traitor's Gate

This is where many unfortunate souls entered the grounds by boat from the Thames, where they were held in the Tower as traitors to the Crown until their execution on Tower Hill. 

Ceremony of the Keys
